The
Local Area Around Misson
The locality of Misson has an extensive and interesting history
stretching back over the centuries. Indeed, the area was home
to a number of Roman forts as a result of its geographical
proximity to both York and Lincoln.
The middle ages however, provide some interesting events
which two men from the area were at the centre of. The Pilgrim
Fathers included amongst their number William
Brewster and William
Bradford. These two men have strong connections with the
church at Babworth and travelled on the Mayflower
on its journey to the United States. The link creates a strong
bond between the area and visiting Americans as is has been
estimated that the original Pilgrim Fathers, estimated to
number around 100, have approximately one million ancestors
in the United States. This makes the area popular with visiting
American tourists and a Mayflower
Trail has been developed to allow visitors to see where
their ancestors came from.
The local countryside provides some very picturesque walks
from the Angel Inn and the annual Classic
Car Run from the pub provides an opportunity to view this
first hand.
